Children: The Twelve Gifts of Reading @ All RPL Branches

Check out 12, pre-wrapped children’s books and enjoy a surprise each day before the holidays. This exciting spin on the regular check-out routine is available through December 23.

Children: Kids Count! President of the Library in Action @ All RPL Branches

Visit the Children’s Room at any branch and learn what the newly elected President has been up to in their first 30 days in office! Rate the President’s work so far and receive a prize. Then, check back in January to learn their system wide approval rating.

Children: Scavenger Hunt: Holiday Folklore @ All RPL Branches

Visit the Children’s Room at any RPL branch for a holiday folklore- themed scavenger hunt! Children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver (age 16+).

Adults: Winter Reading Challenge @ All RPL Branches

Ages 18 and up are invited to participate in a winter reading challenge – BINGO style. Register to use the READsquared app (available in all app stores) or visit one of RPL’s four branches to pick up your winter reading BINGO card. Get BINGO (horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or four corners) and stop by nearest branch to claim your prize! Everyone who completes the challenge will also be entered into a raffle to win a gift card. Challenge ends January 31 at 11:59 pm.

Second Saturday Bookshop

The Friends of RPL’s Second Saturday Bookshop, located in the West End Plaza, is open the second Saturday of each month. Shop for great deals on fiction, nonfiction, children’s items, literary gift baskets, and more! Sales at the Second Saturday Bookshop support Rowan Public Library. Cash, credit cards and checks payments accepted.

Adults: Photowalk at Livingstone College

Join us for a walk at Livingstone College in conjunction with Preservation North Carolina’s traveling exhibition, We Built This: Profiles of Black Architects and Builders in North Carolina, which is currently on display at Headquarters through January 31. This photowalk will focus on historical buildings found on campus, several of which are featured in the exhibit. Your guides will provide interesting facts about each location and photo tips too! Bring your digital camera/phone to take photos together. We will meet just inside campus by the security booth. The address is 701 W. Monroe St., Salisbury NC, 28144. The photowalk will last approximately 90 min.

All Ages: "We Built This" Exhibition @ RPL HQ

We Built This, a traveling exhibit designed to highlight Black architects, builders, and craftspeople of North Carolina, will be on display at RPL Headquarters through January 27, 2024 during business hours. This exhibit is presented by Preservation North Carolina, hosted in partnership with Livingstone College and the Historic Salisbury Foundation, and sponsored by the Joe L. & Hester M. Sims Family Foundation and Edward & Susan Norvell.

All Ages: Cards for a Cause @ All RPL Branches

Create holiday cards that will be delivered to active service members in the United States Armed Forces and to veterans at the Hefner VAMC in Salisbury. Patrons can specify that their card(s) be delivered to a certain branch of the USAF or to the VA. However, cards submitted for a branch of the USAF do have specific deadlines: November 15 for active service members abroad, and December 5 for active service members stateside. All cards delivered after December 5 will be delivered to the VA.

Virtual Author Talk with Stephanie Land

Land is an American author and public speaker, and the author of New York Times bestselling book, The Maid, which was adapted into a television miniseries on Netflix. View her talk live or watch it after the fact and learn about the next installment in the story, Class. This free, virtual program is open to the public. Rowan Public Library’s Virtual Author Talk series is part of the Library Speakers Consortium. If you enjoy podcasts, author talks, hearing about behind the scenes details, or gaining new perspectives on life, then check the archive of available videos. Archived talks are accessible for free at bit.ly/RPLVirtualAuthorTalks. Registration is optional. Library card numbers are not required.

Rowan Public Library and Phoenix Readers present PhoeniXmas, a free reader's theatre-style family-friendly performance of holiday songs, stories, & letters. All ages welcome. Children ages 8 and under must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver (age 16+).

Rowan Public Library CLOSED

RPL Headquarters (Salisbury), RPL East (Rockwell), RPL South (China Grove), and RPL West (Cleveland) will be closed Thursday, December 14 for Staff Development. Regular hours will resume Friday, December 15.

Historic Landmarks Commission Monthly Meeting Moved

The December HLC meeting has been moved to December 5th at 4:00 PM. The meeting will be held in the Planning and Development conference room at 402 N Main St. Room 204, Salisbury NC, 28144. For more information please call the Planning Department at 704-216-8588.

Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting

Planning Board Monthly Meeting has been cancelled

The monthly Planning Board meeting starts at 7:00 PM on the fourth Monday of every month. The meeting takes place at 130 W Innes St. Salisbury, NC 28144. The case files for the meeting can be found on the Planning Board webpage located in the side bar. Case file are added within ten days of the meeting.
