Once all four stamps are collected, patrons’ raffle entries will be entered into a drawing for a pizza party. Completed raffle tickets must be submitted to any RPL location by Saturday, July 30 to be entered. The raffle winner will be announced during the Children and Adult Summer Reading Finale on Wednesday, August 3. Adult kits include the “Show and Shell” activity, which includes all the supplies needed to create an ocean-themed magnet or picture frame.
Teen kits include the “Make a Plarn Planter” activity, which includes all the supplies needed to learn how to design your own reusable planter (and other fun projects) from plastic shopping bags. A video tutorial on creating a plarn planter will be posted to RPL’s YouTube page.
Family kits include the “Treasure Map Kit” activity, which includes all the supplies needed to create your own treasure maps. This activity is suitable for individuals of any age or families.

Tell us a tale as big as a whale! Submit a short story that shows magic of possibility. Eligible entries must be original works of prose, not poetry, and must not exceed 5,000 words. Limit one submission per author, in PDF format to info@rowancountync.gov. This contest is limited to writers ages 18+. Include a cover page with the author’s name and contact information. Do not include the author’s name on the actual story as the judging will be completed blindly by library staff.

Patrons are invited to visit all four RPL locations — RPL Headquarters, East, South, and West — to receive a special stamp from each location. Once all four stamps are collected, patrons’ raffle entries will be entered into a drawing for a pizza party. Completed raffle tickets must be submitted to any RPL location by Saturday, July 30 to be entered. The raffle winner will be announced during the Children and Adult Summer Reading Finale on Wednesday, August 3. Adult kits include the “Show and Shell” activity, which includes all the supplies needed to create an ocean-themed magnet or picture frame.
Teen kits include the “Make a Plarn Planter” activity, which includes all the supplies needed to learn how to design your own reusable planter (and other fun projects) from plastic shopping bags. A video tutorial on creating a plarn planter will be posted to RPL’s YouTube page.
Family kits include the “Treasure Map Kit” activity, which includes all the supplies needed to create your own treasure maps. This activity is suitable for individuals of any age or families.

Tell us a tale as big as a whale! Submit a short story that shows magic of possibility. Eligible entries must be original works of prose, not poetry, and must not exceed 5,000 words. Limit one submission per author, in PDF format to info@rowancountync.gov. This contest is limited to writers ages 18+. Include a cover page with the author’s name and contact information. Do not include the author’s name on the actual story as the judging will be completed blindly by library staff.
Winner will be notified August 2 via their provided contact information. The winning entry will receive an award certificate and a gift basket and announced on the Children’s and Adult Summer Reading Finale Video, set to release on August 3. Adults.
