What is the procedure for recording a deed?

After the deed is drawn and properly signed/notarized, take it to the Tax Assessor’s office for the "green stamp" which is a verification of listing on the Rowan County Tax Map and Parcel Number. Also, present the deed to the Tax Collector’s office for their stamp (“black stamp”) which indicates that the tax payments on the property are current. If you mail the deed to us, the Tax Map and Parcel Number must appear on the first page of the document.

The recording fee is $26 for the first 15 pages and $4 for each additional page. Excise tax stamps are based on $2 per $1,000 value of the purchase price, and must be declared on the first page of the deed.

Also now required on the First Page of these documents is a Title (wording which clearly states what the document is) of the document, the grantee and grantor address, and who prepared the document.
