COVID-19 Testing and Contact Tracing – How Does It Work?

What should you expect after being tested for COVID-19?  What happens during contact tracing?  The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has provided an infographic that explains this by describing the experience of testing and contact tracing.

This sample scenario, available in English and Spanish, takes you through the steps of contact tracing when someone has a positive test for COVID-19.

FEMA Assistance During COVID-19

FEMA Public Assistance funding is available for a wide variety of organizations and agencies throughout North Carolina who have incurred costs due to emergency measures and protective actions to reduce or eliminate the threat of COVID-19.

Eligible entities include local governments, counties, special political subdivisions and authorities, tribal entities, certain private non-profits (community centers, food programs, hospitals, assisted living facilities, shelters, houses of worship, utility cooperatives), K-12 schools, and institutions of higher education.  Please note:

  • Funds are paid on a reimbursement basis, but expedited funding is available.
  • For this event, eligible reimbursable work and costs are those related to emergency protective measures that have been taken or that will be taken to eliminate or lessen immediate threats to lives, public health, and safety due to COVID-19.
  • Applicants must work though and maintain access to the FEMA Grants Portal (as with a natural disaster event) to access funding.

The first step in this process is to reach out to the NC Emergency Management Public Assistance Program at pahotline@ncem.org with the name of your organization, if it is a private non-profit (PNP) and a 501c3, and contact information including a name, phone number, and email address.
