[ARCHIVED] May is National Foster Care Month

Rowan County has 225 children in foster care.  The majority of these youth are placed with relatives or in family-like settings.  Rowan has 26 foster homes licensed by the Department of Social Services and is in need of more.  Our foster parents serve as resource parents for children who cannot live safely with their own families.   Our foster parents make homes for our children, those who have been abused or neglected, traumatized.   They help  to create a new meaning of “home” for these children. They build the resilience of our youth so that the youth grow into healthy functioning adults.  Foster parents make a difference in the lives of these children by providing hope, healing and home.

For that, we acknowledge and celebrate our foster parents by offering the following:

Thank you for taking the inspirational risk to open your heart and home for children in need.

Thank you for persevering through tough times and crisis.

We are amazed at your ability to see the potential in every child.

We are amazed at the difference you make in a child’s life.

Thank you for your commitment to our children. . .

                For a day…for a year…for a lifetime.

Thank you for your partnership with our staff.

We depend so much on your tireless energy.

With humble appreciation for your service,

Rowan County Department of Social Services, Social Work Division
