[ARCHIVED] Press Release: Rowan County Community Forum on Medicaid Transformation

Rowan County Department of Social Services is pleased to announce a community forum to review upcoming changes to Medicaid.  The community forum will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at Rowan County DSS located at 1813 E Innes Street, Salisbury, NC.

Medicaid Transformation is changing the way people receive Medicaid services.  Instead of one Medicaid program, there are several health plans to choose from.  A health plan is a group of doctors, hospitals, and other providers.  All health plans are required to have the same Medicaid services, such as office visits, blood tests and X-rays.  Health plans may also offer added services such as programs to help you quit smoking, learn to eat healthier and have a healthy pregnancy.   Each plan has its own network of qualified doctors and health care providers.  Medicaid recipients will be able to choose the health plan that is best for their needs.   All entities will work together to provide the Medicaid recipient the health care needed.  Everything – physical health, mental health and medicine – will come from the same health plan.

Each Medicaid beneficiary will choose a health plan and primary care provider (PCP), who could be your family doctor, clinic or other health care provider, and the PCP will assist with all health care needs.   There are five plans available for Rowan County participants. The plans include Well Care, United Healthcare Community Plan, Healthy Blue, AmeriHealth Caritas, and Carolina Complete Health.  Representatives from each of these plans will be onsite during the forum to answer questions about their specific plan.  An Enrollment Broker from Maximus will be present to provide assistance to Medicaid recipients in choosing the right health plan to meet their individual and family needs.   This Enrollment Broker is currently stationed at Rowan County DSS, Monday – Friday, through February, 2020 to assist beneficiaries with reviewing the plans and making their selection.

Additional information regarding the health plans can be found at The enrollment process can occur in several ways such as through the website,, through use of the NC Medicaid Managed Care mobile app, or by calling toll free  1-833-870-5500 (TTY: 1-833-870-5588).  Enrollment forms can also be mailed or faxed back to complete the process. Enrollment must take place by December 13, 2019.  The health plan coverage will start February 1, 2020.  Those beneficiaries who fail to pre-enroll will be automatically enrolled with a plan and provider.  It is to the recipient’s benefit to pre-enroll so that they may select their providers.

The community forum is open for everyone to attend, including Medicaid recipients, medical providers who may have questions regarding the changes, and any community partners who are seeking additional information on the upcoming changes.
