The Rowan County Health Department (RCHD) will observe National Public Health Week and recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our county’s health. We would like to invite you to celebrate with us. All activities will take place at the Rowan County Health Department unless otherwise noted. If you have any questions, please call 704-216-8777. Monday April 1st 10:00 am: Promoting Healthy Activity and Fitness – Granite Lake Park

Physical activity helps control weight, but it has other benefits. Physical activity such as walking can help improve health even without weight loss. People who are physically active will live longer and have a lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers. Improving spaces and having safe places to walk can help more people become physically active. In collaboration with the Town of Granite Quarry, RCHD will hold a Community Walk in Granite Lake Park. Active living is as easy as “A Walk in the Park” and will start at 10:00 AM. Come walk with us! 

Tuesday, April 2nd 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm: Public Health Nursing

A public health goal is “Ensuring the Right to Health”. To assure everyone knows about Rowan County Health Department offerings, the nursing staff will highlight information on programs available for adults. We will provide information and trivia questions on our Adult Health Primary Care program, knowing your HIV status, testing your Hepatitis C knowledge (important for baby boomers and others), and Narcan kits. 

Wednesday April 3rd 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm: Stress Management

Stress can cause severe health problems. Feeling stressed? Create calm… 

Learn about available resources in Rowan County for managing stress. Stop by to enjoy a healthy snack while receiving tips and tricks related to stress relief. Visit stations involving activities such as coloring, games, music, and exercise. Guided stretching sessions will also be provided by Healthy Rowan. 

Thursday April 4th 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm: WIC Nutrition Services

A Rowan County WIC Nutritionist will provide information on the WIC Program, how to apply, and how to qualify. Information will also be available on the new eWIC card and iPhone App. Various recipe cards will be available along with activity books for young children and their families. Come join us to learn about the WIC Program and receive great nutritional information. 

Friday April 5th 9:00 am – 12:00 pm: Dental Health Day

Dental Health is important for our children! Come by the Smile Center to make an appointment and receive a Dental Goody Bag! Your Dental Goody Bag will be filled with oral hygiene tools and educational information. Bags will be available for both adults and kids!
