[ARCHIVED] Ellis Park Playground Ribbon Cutting

Playground with person pushing wheelchair up ramp

Salisbury, June 20, 2018 - Rowan County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the completion of its new inclusive & ADA accessible playground at Ellis Park.  The official grand opening and ribbon cutting will be Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 10am, rain or shine.

The new playground was constructed as a result of a grant awarded to Rowan County in 2017 from the Connect NC Bond program and the NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Authority (PARTF). Rowan County was one of 18 projects across North Carolina selected to receive the grant funding.

Some featured components of the play structure include accessible swings, braille panel, sign language panel, and musical keyboard panel. Also included in the playground area is an inclusive orbit which is a merry go round that accommodates someone in a wheelchair, seated or standing all at the same time. The ultimate goal of the Ellis Park playground is to be a place where children, parents, grandparents, siblings, or friends with and without disabilities can interact and…...”All Can Play.”

Please make plans to celebrate this wonderful addition to the Rowan County Parks and Recreation Department and surrounding Ellis Crossroad Community. Ellis Park is located at 3541 Old Mocksville Road, Salisbury, NC 28144.  For questions please call 704-216-7780.
