[ARCHIVED] May is National Bike Month

May is National Bike Month, a time to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.  Rowan County is proud to join the Salisbury’s Greenway, Bicycle, & Pedestrian Committee and other partner agencies to help promote this inaugural event.  National Bike Month is an opportunity to "get people interested in biking and possibly adopting a healthier lifestyle," said Vickie Eddleman, Traffic Engineering Coordinator for the City of Salisbury.

Anyone with access to a bicycle, regardless of skill level, is encouraged to participate in activities throughout the month.  Participants must complete five bike rides to be entered into a prize drawing.  For those unable to use Strava, the application used to track bike rides, there will be themed weekly events to enter at least one social media picture or video to be entered.  The more entries, the more chances to win.  There is also an art contest for children to enter as well.

Events

  • May 1-6: Bike to/at school or work
  • May 7-13: Bike our parks
  • May 14-20: Downtown adventures
  • May 21-27: Community cruising/ride your neighborhood
  • May 28-31: Art and Literary Crawl
