April 3rd – 9th is National Public Health Week!  The theme of National Public Health Week 2023 is "Centering and Celebrating Cultures of Health.”  This year’s theme resonates with the diversity of Rowan County and the various populations and communities that call our county “home.” As individuals we all seek a feeling of belonging in our communities and by fostering cultural connections, we can support the health and the quality of our lives for people.

As we make the shift of viewing COVID-19 as an endemic instead of a pandemic, now is the time that we shift the views of our public health work force. For so many years public health was viewed as “responders” to health crisis instead of innovators and community leaders tasked with shaping the wellness of the communities and preventing crisis from occurring. National Public Health Week is a time to shine a light on the work that public health professionals do every day to ensure safety, build community connectedness, and improve health and wellbeing.

This year Rowan County Public Health will be hosting a variety of community events for community members to participate in. All the events will be free to the public and all individuals are welcome to join.

Monday, April 3rd

  • Soulful Yoga will be hosting Yoga in the Park at the Bell Tower Green starting at 5:30. Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat or a beach towel.

Tuesday April 4th

  • Rowan County Public Health and Healthy Rowan will be hosting a Walk Audit in downtown Salisbury. For more information or to volunteer please contact Healthy Rowan Program Manager Kristen Estepp, or at (704) 216-8944 .

Wednesday April 5th

  • Release of the 2023 Public Health Week Bingo on social media. Individuals who complete the bingo card will be entered into a drawing.

Thursday April 6th

  • Public Health Trivia hosted by New Sarum Brewery. Trivia will begin at 7PM and will consist of physical activity, food and nutrition, advocates for health and science, and Rowan County Trivia.

Friday April 7th

  • Rowan County Public Health will release the “What does Public Health Mean to Me” video featuring public health staff.

Where we live, learn, work, worship, and play all impact our ability to live the healthiest and most fulfilling lives as well as our opportunity to prevent the onset of disease and injury. With that in mind, Rowan County Public Health continues to work across public and private sectors to create healthier people, families, communities, and county.
