Flu Shots are Now Available at Rowan County Public Health

Appointments for flu shots are now available at Rowan County Public Health. For the majority of people, October is generally the best time to get vaccinated. By getting your flu shot at this time, you will most likely have enough protection to last you throughout the upcoming flu season. The annual flu vaccination is recommended for anyone 6 months of age and older.

Influenza (flu) is nothing to take lightly, and it can sometimes lead to hospitalizations or even death. Flu can mean a few days of feeling bad and missing work, school, or family events, or it can result in a more serious illness. Complications of flu can include bacterial pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections and worsening of chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, asthma, or diabetes. Studies have shown, however, that an annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to help reduce the risk of getting flu and any serious complications that could occur.

In addition to making an appointment for your flu shot, you can also make an appointment to receive your bivalent booster at the same time. If you are at least 2 months out from your last COVID-19 shot, either since your last booster or since completing your primary series, you are now eligible for the new bivalent booster. Pfizer’s bivalent booster shot is for anyone twelve and older, whereas the Moderna bivalent booster is for anyone over eighteen years of age.

If you are interested in getting your flu shot, starting your COVID-19 vaccination series, and/or receiving your Moderna or Pfizer bivalent booster, please call Rowan County Public Health at     704-216-8863 to make an appointment. Due to the high volume of calls, you may need to leave your name and phone number. If this is the case, please know that one of our staff will follow up with you as soon as possible. We thank you in advance for your patience.
