[ARCHIVED] Rowan County Named 3rd Healthiest Employer in the Greater Charlotte Area

For Immediate Release

Rowan County has been named the 3rd Healthiest Employer of the greater Charlotte area by the Charlotte Business Journal in the 500-1,499 employees category. The program recognized Human Resources and the County Wellness Committee for making strides in wellness for workers. Criteria included a range of health and wellness initiatives such as benefits, paid leave, workplace amenities, and COVID protocols.

Of special recognition was the County's positive changes in the diabetes and cardiovascular health of employees through the HealthMap Program. Participants receive health coaching, individualized care planning, and no-cost co-pays for diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol medications. Assistant Director of Benefits and Risk Management Debbie Holshouser stated, “We are proud of our wellness programming because it offers a variety of opportunities for employees to participate in which focus on our employees’ physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. We are able to offer many of these opportunities on-site at the employee’s place of work, which promotes engagement and encourages employees to participate in activities that they otherwise may not be able to find or make time for in their personal lives.”

Rowan County ranked third, preceded by Iredell Health System and Cleveland County Government. This is the third time Rowan County has been recognized for these efforts by the Charlotte Business Journal. The County was ranked 1st in 2020 and 6th in 2019. Rowan County was also named the 38th out of 100 healthiest workplaces in the country in 2020 by Springbuk, an intelligence company that analyzed data compiled on a regional basis, and included nationally recognized companies such as Delta Air Lines, American Express and Syngenta.
