Important Health Message from the Rowan County Public Health Director Regarding the Upcoming Autumn Jubilee:

Autumn Jubilee Vendors and Visitors:

The Rowan County Health Department (RCHD) continues to monitor increased COVID-19 cases, high community transmission, high positivity rates, and a hospital system overwhelmed by patients needing care for severe illness. COVID-19 spreads more easily as people gather together at any event. Our goal as a community is to reduce the spread of COVID-19 to keep our public healthy and help get us all back to normal. We need every citizen, family, guest, and vendor to help our community by taking the personal responsibility to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The upcoming Autumn Jubilee event has been modified to create a safer environment. No event that is taking place is 100% safe and each family needs to act with caution if they choose to attend. Many in our community are not vaccinated and children under 12 cannot be vaccinated at this time. Please do your part by making sure you are COVID-19 free by getting tested 72 hours before attending the event and do not attend if you are not feeling well.

First and foremost, COVID-19 vaccinations work to reduce the spread of COVID-19, help prevent severe illness, and prevent hospitalization. We encourage you to speak with your provider if you have questions. Our local data shows that the greatest increase of cases and largest proportion of severe illness is among unvaccinated individuals.

Next, the tools we have for prevention are the 3W’s – wear your mask, wash your hands, and wait six feet apart. A layered prevention approach works to decrease COVID-19 cases. The research provides unequivocal evidence – masks work to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by providing both source control from a potential positive person and protection for the wearer. RCHD strongly recommends vendors and visitors wear masks, especially when in a large crowd of people.

COVID-19 can spread rapidly when people are interacting closely together and not wearing masks, even outdoors. Please be mindful that you should not attend Autumn Jubilee if you are experiencing any symptom of COVID-19. Rowan County has COVID-19 testing sites throughout the community that are free, offer testing with no appointment needed, and offer testing at a variety of times throughout the day. RCHD’s website has a list of locations throughout the community and a weekly calendar posted to assist people in knowing where to go.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the following:

Please help us stand up for Rowan County by shutting down COVID-19!

 Best regards,

Alyssa Harris, MPH
