Rowan County Public Health is Offering a COVID Vaccination Clinic at East Rowan High School Tomorrow

Tomorrow afternoon, Rowan County Public Health will be offering a vaccination clinic at East Rowan High School. This clinic is open to anyone, and we highly encourage all local students and teachers to take advantage of this event. Please note that the Pfizer vaccine will be given at this clinic, which is safe for anyone twelve years old and older. It is also important to note that the Pfizer vaccine does require two vaccines to be considered fully vaccinated, so we ask that you plan accordingly.

  • East Rowan High School
    Friday, July 23rd; 12 to 3 pm
Return Date for 2nd Vaccination: Friday, August 13th; 2 to 5 pm

With school beginning in less than a month and with us now experiencing a substantial spread of active COVID cases within Rowan County once again, it is as important as ever to get vaccinated against COVID. Currently, only 35.3% of our total population have been vaccinated. With that said and with us seeing the spread of the Delta variant here at home and across our country, what we do now or do not do may determine what the fall will look like, whether or not we face another outbreak, and/or if tighter preventive measures will once again go into place.

As of this past Tuesday, Rowan County has 226 active cases with 142 of the cases occurring in the past seven days. More importantly, the most recent deaths from COVID have occurred in individuals that have not been vaccinated. In addition to this, hospitals throughout our state are also seeing an uptick in the number of individuals coming into their facilities that are sick and who have not received their COVID vaccine yet. Hospitals have also noted that the average age of a hospitalized individual has dropped from 61 to 47.

If you and/or your child still needs to get a COVID vaccine and this Friday’s event does not work for your schedule, please know that we have other upcoming school-targeted clinics that we are offering (West Rowan Elementary School on Tuesday, August 3rd; 12 to 3 pm and/or the Wallace Center on Thursday, August 5th; 10 am to 2 pm). You can also visit the CDC’s vaccine finder. Here, you will find a number of local agencies/businesses that are offering COVID vaccines in Rowan County, such as:

  • Novant Health at the J. F. Hurley YMCA; Walk-ins are accepted Wednesdays and Fridays; 8 am – 5 pm
  • Larger chain pharmacies: CVS and Walgreens
  • Grocery Stores: Walmart, Food Lion (Salisbury and China Grove), Sam’s Club
  • Local pharmacies: Moose Pharmacy, The Medicine Shoppe, and Cannon Pharmacy
  • Provider offices: Rowan County Public Health, Rowan Diagnostic Clinic, Pro Med, and Salisbury Pediatric (only for established patients)

To find out more information about which vaccines are being offered and when they are being offered, please contact the agency/business directly.  It is important to know that when seeking out a COVID vaccine for your child, any child younger than 12 is not yet currently eligible to receive a vaccine. However, if your child is 12 years old and older, they can receive the following vaccines based on their age:

  • Pfizer Vaccine (age 12+)
  • Moderna Vaccine (age 18+)
  • Johnson and Johnson (age 18+)

Please consider your prevention tools as the summer continues. We highly encourage you to first get vaccinated, for we know it is the best form of protection against COVID-19. You should also make sure you are washing your hands, keeping your hands away from your face, nose, and mouth, social distancing when you can, and wearing a mask in larger crowds.

Here's wishing everyone a continued safe and healthy summer!
