Nina Oliver has resigned as Health Director for the Rowan County Health Department to accept a position as Public Health Director in another county in North Carolina. Nina has been a part of the Rowan County Health Department for the past 18 years, working as a Dental Health Educator, moving to Preparedness Coordinator, then Clinical Program Manager, and finally serving as Health Director in 2014. We appreciate Nina’s service to the citizens of Rowan County and wish her the very best as she moves into her new position. She has contributed greatly in many areas, is leaving in good standing, and will be missed. 

In her resignation letter Nina stated, “The past almost 18 years here have been very rewarding. I’ve truly enjoyed working in public health and managing a successful department dedicated to providing greater access to health care, health equity, and education to the Rowan County community. While I am looking very much forward to this new opportunity, I will miss the many community partnerships and friendships I have formed over the years.” 

Due to the pandemic it is essential that we have an immediate transition in Leadership. The Board of Health has named Alyssa Harris, Community Health Manager, to an interim health director role, and will immediately begin the process of assessing the needs of the Health Department and recruiting the leadership required to move forward to continue to improve the health of Rowan County and to battle the current pandemic.
