Veterans Services
The Veterans Services Department provides direct services to more than 14,000 Rowan County military veterans and their families. Specific services offered include assistance with the following:
- Applications for medical care at the Veterans Affairs Hospital
- Education benefits for children of veterans
- Filing compensation and pension applications
- Information on veterans group life insurance
- Obtaining burial benefits for veterans
- Veterans affairs Loan Eligibility Certificates
Rowan County Veterans Services Office is funded by the county to assist veterans and their dependents in all facets of veterans' benefits. All of the services provided by this office are free of charge.

Help for Homeless Veterans
VA is committed to ending homelessness among Veterans by connecting homeless and at-risk Veterans with housing solutions, health care, community employment services and other required supports; and Collaborating with federal, state and local agencies; employers; housing providers, faith-based and community nonprofits; and others to expand employment and affordable housing options for Veterans exiting homelessness.

North Carolina offers several benefits for its veteran population including scholarships, hunting and fishing licenses, automobile license plates, property tax exemption, and more.

Rowan County Directory of Services (PDF)
This directory includes quick access to emergency numbers, medical hotlines, employment training, housing assistance, short- and long-term care facilities, mental health services, tax assistance, and more. It concentrates on services and resources for older adults and may not include all services in your area. It is compiled annually by Rufty-Holmes Senior Center.

Transportation
Rowan Transit System and City of Salisbury Transit provide low-cost transportation options within Rowan County. Additional transportation options include Amtrak and CK Rider.
